About Us

Hello! And welcome to Cellar Sleuths. Just to give you some background about us, we're Bart and Katie, a father-daughter duo who loves enjoying wine together and with our family and friends and just about anyone who also likes to enjoy a glass of wine. We've always been fond of a glass of wine, but back when the world shut down in 2020, we were bored and looking for something to do together at home. We came up with the idea of studying for the level 1 introductory sommelier exam from the Court of Master Sommeliers (yes, the same group from the Somm documentary). Well, we passed that exam and decided that we couldn't stop at just introductory sommeliers, we had to go on and study for the level 2 certified sommelier exam, which involves blind tasting wines, a theory exam, and a service portion where you actually serve a master sommelier in a mock restaurant setting. Why not? We've gone all the way and taken our exam, and we can now both call ourselves Certified Sommeliers! It was honestly a pretty awesome experience all around, and along the way, we have tasted A LOT of wine of many types from all over the world (seriously, hundreds of bottles). We also know more about wine, winemaking, grapes, wine regions, and service of wine than we ever thought we'd know, and we still love wine and want to learn more. We decided we'd keep tasting all kinds of wine to review them and find the ones we love--the ones we'd buy again, and the ones we'd want to keep in our cellar--and Katie's husband had the idea of putting our reviews out in the public, in case anyone is kind enough to actually read them. We thought this sounded like fun! So, we're reviewing some fun wines, and we'd like to bring you along for the ride.
