Katie here. One of my other hobbies, apart from wine, is reading. I’ve ended up in two book clubs as a result, one of which is with my brother and another friend. We recently read the book The Boys in the Boat (highly recommend, by the way). I was tasked with providing some wine to enjoy with our discussion, so I headed over to Jacob Liquor to browse.
It’s so much more fun to try to match a wine to the story you read than to just choose something random! Since our story largely took place in Washington, I wanted to get a Washington wine (they make some absolutely wonderful wine). When I saw this wine, The Untold Story, from Columbia Valley in Washington, it felt like it was meant to be.

I love how red blends can create great flavor profiles by using different grapes harmoniously. This particular blend is 40% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Syrah, 10% Merlot, and 10% Grenache. Thanks to this beautiful mixture, you get elements of both black fruits like blackberries and black plums, but also red fruits like cherries and strawberries. I also noticed some dark chocolate and smokiness in it, which gives you a lot to think about when you’re considering a great wine and a great book at the same time. It’s smooth and lovely. It just feels like the right wine to drink in the evening while flipping through pages of an enjoyable novel.
What a great way to end a long day—good company, a good book discussion, and good wine!
This wine sells for $38 at Jacob Liquor. Go get some!
