If you watched our videos on pairing Halloween candy with wine, then you know the answer is not to. Instead, we plan to enjoy a nice cocktail, like an Old Fashioned. But not just any Old Fashioned. It is Halloween after all, which calls for a Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned. Same as a regular Old Fashioned, but with pumpkin spice simple syrup instead of plain, boring, non-festive simple syrup.

Let us tell you, it’s DELICIOUS. It’s Autumn joy in a cocktail, the taste and smell of delicious Fall spices and a cool Autumn breeze.
And guess what: you can make your own pumpkin spice simple syrup! It’s easy! If Katie can do it, you can, too.
Pumpkin Spice Simple Syrup:
(recipe from feastandwest.com)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup granulated sugar
1 cup water
1/4 cup pumpkin puree
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
In a saucepan over medium heat, stir together sugars and water until the sugar has dissolved
Don't let it boil.
Stir in pumpkin puree and vanilla until dissolved. Stir in the spices.
Cook for about 10 minutes total, being careful not to boil. Turn off the heat and let the mixture sit for 15 minutes.
Strain through a fine mesh strainer.
Store in a glass jar for up to 1 week.
Then, you use your pumpkin spice simple syrup with your bourbon and two dashes of bitters to make your Old Fashioned. You can find specific ratios of bourbon and simple syrup, but I prefer to do it to taste.

Happy Halloween, everyone!!
