Katie here. Guys, it's cold! Are you looking for a delicious but economical red wine to warm you up this weekend? Check out this red blend from the Douro Valley in Portugal!
Mary Taylor Douro Red Blend, Filipe Ferreira Enólogo em Gouvāes do Douro, 2022

This lovely wine is 60% Touriga Nacional, 25% Tinta Roriz, and 15% Touriga Franca. Do those grapes sound obscure to you? Actually, Touriga Nacional is commonly used in the blends of grapes used for Port, and Tinta Roriz is Portugal's name for the Tempranillo grape used in Rioja wines!
We had this wine with some family the other day, and I immediately took a picture of the bottle because I knew I wanted to share it! We were all very pleasantly surprised with this one. It smells like wet earth and cherry cobbler, like eating a warm cherry cobbler if you took it outside for a picnic right after it rained, and the ground is wet. This wine sells for $15 at Jacob Liquor.
Just another example of how tasting wines outside the box, from places other than California and France, can be really rewarding. Check this one out! We're getting more!
