While we were studying for our sommelier exam, we met weekly with our study partner, Mark, to taste wines (important studying, you understand). After our exam, we didn’t have the excuse to do this anymore… but we recently decided to start up again to keep ourselves sharp!
We each brought a fun wine we wanted to try while cheering on Team USA. This wine was one of them:
Two Vintners Syrah, Columbia Valley, 2021

Washington state is making some absolutely great wine, and we have really enjoyed some great Washington Syrahs. This is no exception. Classic for Syrah, this wine smells so peppery! It’s lovely. It also smells like warm blackberries, like you’re out at Elderslie Farm on a warm day, and ripe black cherries. There’s a touch of licorice here, too. Some Syrah can smell pretty meaty, and this does a little, too.
This is a great wine. We all really enjoyed drinking this and watching Stephen Nedoroscik crush the pommel horse.
This sells for $28 at Jacob Liquor. If you enjoy Syrah at all, do yourself a favor and get some!
