Bart doesn't have 4 kids at home, so on nice evenings like we've had recently, he and his wife, Melissa, felt they couldn't stay home, and they headed back to their old stomping ground in College Hill. They happily found themselves at Dempsey's Burger Pub, and while you may think burgers are more of a beer food, we think wine goes with EVERYTHING. And Dempsey's delivers! On Reggie's recommendations, Bart decided on the Leopold Apple Whiskey BBQ Burger and truffle fries. Absolutely delicious, and he highly recommends ordering this when you next go to Dempsey's.

So what wine to pair with this? Malbec wines from Argentina are smoky, fruity, dark wines that often go well with grilled meats. He decided to run with this and ordered the Portillo Malbec. This smelled of black cherries and plums, sweet tobacco and baking spices and tasted of the same. Bart liked the way this paired with the BBQ burger, but he did think the wine became lost among the truffle fries.

Because he was with his wife, this gave Bart an excuse to order a second glass of wine. Melissa is a big fan of Cabernet Sauvignon, so they ordered the World's Edge Cabernet Sauvignon from Australia. It's hot in Australia (news flash), so the Cabs that come from there are big and FRUITY. This particular wine had bold blackberry and black cherry flavors, mixed in with some baking spices and a little earthiness (in a good way!) that the Malbec didn't have. They both enjoyed drinking this wine with the burger, as it stood up harmoniously to the burger and the earthy truffle fries. This Cab was definitely the standout when paired with this delicious meal.

While neither of these wines are necessarily something we'd have in our cellar at home, they are great burger wines and perfect for this occasion. We're excited to get back to Dempsey's and try some more!
